Malignancy Of Smartphone

Rapid development of mobile OS like Android and iOS making smartphone sales waves become more larger. In fact, the invasion of the global smartphone products look more wild and smartphone sales keep grind the feature phone market.

Talking about the mobile device market, is arguably that the sector is experiencing a significant increase. But there is something interesting to note that the invasion of smartphones looks increasingly intense along with very tight vendors competition and mobile operating system. So true, if a smartphone can shift the position of the feature phone in the mobile device market that the most widely purchased in a couple years ago, and now conditions have changed. Smartphone sales surpassed feature phone in a short time relatively.

According to studies conducted by the research institute of Gartner, smartphone sales well above the feature phone. Gartner noted if sales of 435 million units of mobile phones globally in the second quarter this year, about 51.8% is the smartphone category. As for feature phone sales globally only about 210 million units.

From this research, successful smartphone sales increased by 46.5%. while feature phones has decreased by 21%. Gartner also noted if Latin America, Asia Pacific and Eastern Europe is the region with the highest smartphone growth rate, 55.7%, 74.1% and 31.6%.

Earlier, in the first quarter of 2013, IDC also released the entire mobile phone industry reached 418.6 million units, an increase of 4% over the same quarter in 2012. IDC also confirms that smartphones surpassed feature phone with the amount of 216.2 million units or approximately 51.6% of the total mobile phone market.

By the position, Samsung dominates smartphone market sales. According to Gartner, smartphone manufacturers from South Korea is more superior than Apple with a market share in the second quarter 2013 increased to 31.7% from the same quarter in 2012 which only reached 29.7%. While Apple managed to dominate a market share of 14.2%.

In the first quarter 2013 IDC also noted if Samsung dominate sales with a market share of approximately 32.7%. While Apple holds share of 17.3%.

Meanwhile, in the second quarter of 2013, IDC released data on smartphone sales reached 237.9 million units, growing 52.3% compared to the same period in 2012 to reach 156.2 million units. In this quarter, Samsung dominate the market with 30.4% market share or sales of 72.4 million units. And Apple took second place with a market share of 13.1% or 31.2 million units.
Under the both vendor, LG ranks third with a market share of 5.1% or 12.1 million units of smartphones. For the fourth position is occupied by Lenovo and ZTE, each selling smartphones at 11.3 million units and 10.1 million units.

Strategy Analytics also revealed the same sequence. Samsung is in the top position, superior in comparison to other vendors. And one factor that led to the best-selling Samsung due to Samsung Galaxy S4 demand in China and around the world.

But, analysis from Strategy Analytics reveal if LG become the most shining vendor in the second quarter of 2013 as shipments of smartphones increased two-fold. Slightly different from the IDC, the fifth position is occupied by Huawei which recorded shipments of 11.1 million units of smartphones.

Horrible Android Record

For sector operating system or OS, the Android platform is the golden boy of Google increasingly dominates the smartphone market. Since Android taking over Symbian, Android continues to rapidly sped without stopping and getting aggressively expanding colony. Android became one of the largest providers of global smartphone sales. While the main competitors, that is iOS, has decreased. And that makes Android more superior is in the second quarter of 2013, Android achieved a new record.

Almost 80% worldwide market share dominated by Android. According to data from Strategy Analytics which was released in early August 2013, Android accounted for as much as 8 units of the 10 units of smartphones that is distributed globally. Of 229.6 million smartphone units, approximately 79.5% controlled by Android or approximately 182.6 million units of smartphones.

Meanwhile, iOS in second place with a market share of 13.6% or 31.2 million units. For the third smartphone platform, Windows Phone that is occupied by successfully sent about 8.9 million smartphone units or 3.6%. in the last three years, sales of Windows Phone could be at the highest level because of strong support from Nokia.

The same was noted by Gartner. In the second quarter of 2013, Android became A king of all vendors in sales with a market share of 79%. While iOS is in second place with a market share of 14.2%, followed by Blackberry with 2.7% and 0.4% with Bada. And this is proof that Android is really horrible for the other competitors. If Android has now become a KING, then what looks like a competition at the end of the year? Is Android still be a king, or turned into a pawn? We'll see.

  1. IOS VS ANDROID? Android is powerful, its more functional and cuts the crap of fancy stuff. IOS rely on fancy transitions and ads to make the iPhone even remotely interesting. Apple clearly has run out of ideas.
